Church Cleaners

We are very fortunate to have 2 beautiful Churches in which to worship the Lord. It is important to care for and maintain this sacred space.
This group provides a very important service to the parish community by working to keep the Church clean. They meet every month
New members are very welcome. You can just show up and volunteer to help whenever it suits or you can commit to helping on a more regular basis on either or both of these days.

Church Grounds

The Grounds Maintenance Team is responsible for maintaining the buildings, statues, walls, footpaths and parking areas, Duties also include mowing and raking the Cemetery grounds and trimming the trees and bushes.

The Church grounds in All Saints including the graveyard are maintained by Jim McLaughlin and ably assisted by Tommy Mc Cutcheon

Devine Mercy Holy Hour

Prayer group meets on the last Monday of the month in Killea Chapel from 8-9pm.

You expired, O Jesus,
but the source of life gushed forth for souls

Flower Team

The Flower Group works in pairs on a rota system, most of us coming in on a Saturday morning, and some on a Friday morning or afternoon.

If you would like to join our group and have a creative talent, with an appreciation of design, shape and colour, please contact the parish priest. We would welcome any one with a sense of committment and reliability. We work as a team an a flexible and non-competitive environment. Ministers of the Eucharist

Since Vatican II the laity have been encouraged to participate more actively in the life of the Church. One of the ways this has developed has been in the liturgy of the Church, where special ministries have been developed to enable people to participate in the reading of the Word of God and assist with the distribution of Holy Communion.

Those who help the priest with the distribution of Holy Communion are called Eucharistic Ministers. Eucharistic Ministers help in sharing the sacred body and blood of Christ at each Mass in our parish by assisting the celebrant in the distribution of the Eucharist to the assembled faithful. They may also extend this service to the community by bring communion from the Mass to the sick or housebound each week.

Eucharistic Ministers receive training to fulfil the role and this also enables them to discern whether they are suitable for this ministry. The basic requirements for the role would require people to:

Attend mass faithfully each Sunday and be free to receive Holy Communion themselves
Be at least 18 years of age
Be available and willing to take part on a rota

Ministers of the Word

The role of a Minister of the Word is to make the Liturgy of the Word as meaningful as possible for the assembled congregation. The General Instruction of the Roman Missal reminds us that when the Sacred Scriptures are read in the Church, God himself speaks to his people, and Christ, present in his own word, proclaims the Gospel. During the liturgy, the reader is fulfilling a mission to his or her fellow community members. It is a sacred duty that involves a sharing of one’s own faith.

It is therefore a great privilege to read the sacred scriptures at Mass. It is also a personally enriching, fulfilling, and spiritual experience. If you have been given the gift of a good voice (which can be trained to sound better) and a good sense of reading aloud (which can be trained to interpret better) you are equipped for the Ministry of the Word.

Ministry of Hospitality

Ushers and Greeters are called to be Ministers of Hospitality. They are entrusted with promoting a sense of welcoming and belonging to all the faithful assembled for worship. They are the first point of contact for the communal celebration of the Liturgy and because of this, should take special steps in being living representatives of the Parish Mission Statement. Ministers of Hospitality minister to the entire community in a very active way. By freeing each person of their own personal impediments to the Mass through a welcoming atmosphere, ministers of hospitality take an active role in enabling each person to come to a freer expression of God in the Liturgy.

Offertory Collectors

At each weekend Mass, just after the Prayers of the Faithful, the Offertory Collectors pass the collection baskets throughout the community to receive their monetary offerings.

Collector duties on such occasions also include ushering members of the congregation during Communion. Each Mass has an informal team of Collectors to carry out these duties. After the passing of the baskets, two of the Collectors bring the collection forward during the offertory procession and secure it before final accounting and deposit.

Time commitment: Collectors serve for approximately 5-15 minutes during the Mass.

Skills/Qualities:

Ability to communicate and interact with others
Proactive nature, watching for ways to help others

Training:

Those wishing to act as Collectors should volunteer while basket duties are being assigned and, if selected, they will receive instructions and on-the-job training.

Sacristans

Sacristans assist in the work of preparing the church for the celebration of Mass, as well as the cleaning up and securing of items that is necessary afterwards.

In most cases, such ministry will involve ensuring that the gifts for communion are prepared, that the credence table is set with the items the priest and Altar Servers will require, and checking that other items required for Mass are in place and in working order.

How we can help

We believe that everyone should have the means to live life with dignity.
Our main area of work is person to person contact with people who need help and assistance. Our members come from all walks of life and understand the many challenges life can bring.

When someone contacts us you will receive a visit from two SVP volunteers, usually within ten days from the time the request for help is received. During the visit, you can discuss your particular problems in depth with friendly people who make no judgement on the situation.

Our members are there to listen and offer support at a time of difficulty. When they have a better understanding of the issues faced, they will consider how best we may be able to help.

“Without your help none of this would have been possible. It would have ended any hope that I might achieve a formal qualification, and have left my family in a hugely terrible situation.”

We may be able to give some help towards the cost of essential household items, such as food, clothing, heating or other household bills either once off or for a short period of time. We could help towards the costs of education. We can offer information or advice on other services or entitlements which can provide on-going or longer term assistance.
